At the review me and my group where told by our teachers that each member of the groups ancillary tasks where ''of a high standard'' but ''not enough aspects are coherent and run through each design''. When comparing our designs and thinking of our target audience, it has become clear that in some ways our products should be split in two. With the first set of products appealing to Vanessa's already faithful fans and the second advertising Vanessa Carlton as an artist. For example this has been shown through merchandise such as the program, T-shirt and Vanessa Carlton range. Which would appeal mainly to faithful fans as they feature VC logo (which our group has created) which they would recognise instantly. Whereas products advertising the artist to people who are not necessarily fans having her full name written such as the concert advertising poster and CD packaging.
The Vanessa Carlton Logo
When discussing my designs specifically it was decided that my Concert Ticket would remain as it is. This is because it has the vital links needed to tie my design together with the other members of my group. As well as having the common codes and conventions of a concert Ticket with a strong photo.
When discussing my Concert T-shirt and comparing it to other merchandise which is linked to a live concert it was thought that although the general ides of my T-shirt was strong there was no link between these materials. i was decided that I would make the following changes to correct this problem.
- Change the color of the T-shirt to white as the new image would now stand out on a black background due to the color of Melissa's (Vanessa's) hair.
- Change the text colors from white to either red or black as the black font would no longer stand out against the black background.
- Change the font on the back of the concert T-shirt to IMPACT which will match the font used on the concert advertising poster which will link these two designs together.
- Change the front image of the T-shirt and use a similar image to the one used on the program. Although the image should not be the same the effects should be used.
Making these changes will ensure that all of our groups ancillary tasks are not liked and has common themes running through each of our designs to shown they are all part of the same package.
After looking at the changes that where discussed and finalised for the Concert T-shirt I decided that I would open a new Illustrator document and start the creation of the new concert T-shirt from the beginning instead of altering the other design, as so many changes had to be made.
Here is the original photogrpah which I have opened in Adobe Photoshop to edit. I have cohsen to use this photograph as it is similar to the photogrpahy uased on the front of the programme so this will ensure that that our group creates a coherent promotional package. Furthermore the red dress reinforces the house style my group has created as well as the dress being a color which will stand out on a white t-shirt.
I began editing the photograph in Photoshop by using the magic wand tool to remove the background. I have already opened the photo on a transparent background so there is not no background at all for the image.
After removing the background I opened the filter Gallery so I could put an effect on to the image. I wanted to find and use the same effect that Rebecca has on the photograph she has used for the front cover of the program. By doing this I am not only following the advice I have been given but also ensuring there is a link between the different ancillary task within my group. The next two print screens show the effect I have used.
After I had successfully edited the photo in Photoshop I saved the file and opened Adobe Illustrator. I will now put together the concert T-shirt in this program. I began by importing a white t-shirt into Illustrator and then importing the saved image.
After importing the image I re sized the photo to fit onto the t-shirt. To ensure that the image did not stretch and the proportions where kept the same I held the shirt key down whilst dragging the corner of the image.
After the image had been placed in the correct position on to the t-shirt I wrote Vanessa Carlton name in the font we have agreed as a group to use. I have positioned the image to the right of the t-shirt as I wanted to leave room to position text vertically down the left hand side of the page. If I wanted to position the text horizontally it would man the image would need to be very small and this would not be suitable for this type of product.
To highlight Vanessa name I and to make the t-shirt interesting for the eye I have decided to change the color of Vanessa to red. this also conforms with the house style my group has agreed.
This is the font in Which Vanessa Carlton or VC is written in.
The next step is to rotate the text. I did this by right clicking on the text box, selecting transform and then rotate. I am then able to control how far the image is rotated.
This is how the front of the concert t-shirt looks after the steps I have taken above.
When beginning the creation of the back of the T-shirt I decided that I would use the logo our group has created for Vanessa Carlton. To make the design of the t-shirt consistent I have decided to change the color of the V to red as I have done on the front of the t-shirt as well as using the same font.
The next step I have taken is to write the year of the concert and the tour name. as the tour name is not yet finalised I Have written tour name in its place. I have written this information in Impact as this font is featured on the tour poster Lily has created. By doing this I have ensured that there is a clear link between these products helping to create a coherent promotional package.
When inserting the concert dates I have center aligned the dates and separated the different venues. I have highlighted the venue in red which is also keeping with the design features of the t-shirt as well as the color scheme my group has created.. By center aligning the text I have ensured I have looked at the feedback I have decided for my previous concert t-shirt design as well as conforming to the codes and conventions of a typical concert t-shirt of this type.
This is the back of the concert t-shirt after I have taken the steps I have discussed above.
The last change that needs to be made to the T-shirt is the adding of the tour name. Our group is currently discussing possible names. I will update the Concert T-shirt back with the name as soon as it has been finalised.
Now I have completed the changes discussed at the review I will now gather feedback on my new design from my teacher, peers, target audience and also compare my new design to the ancillary tasks of the other members of my group.
